JAIN SLEE and Related Technology
A number of other technologies (both Java and non-Java) exist. Of particular interest is the recent SIP Servlet specification (also under the JAIN™ umbrella) and the work of the OSA/Parlay group. JAIN SLEE defines an application environment suited for network orientated applications. It defines a protocol agnostic, component and object orientated and transacted programming model. SIP Servlets defines a container based model that is an extension of the well understood Servlet model. It was designed to simplify the development of SIP based applications and thereby enhance the adoption of the SIP protocol. OSA/Parlay aims to expose network capability via a set of standard APIs that are defined in OSA/Parlay UML specifications. OSA/Parlay does not define an execution environment for applications that use the OSA Parlay APIs. JAIN SLEE, on the other hand, does define a protocol agnostic execution environment. Two view points for the use of JAIN SLEE and OSA/Parlay are presented. Related whitepapers:
